A twenty-eight-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder, after he supposedly tried to hit three people on the sidewalk outside a bar with his U-Haul van.
The police got a call from a bar in the 500 block of South Coast Highway 101 at 1:19 a.m.
They got a report that a van had been driven into several people, according to Sgt. Agustin Rosas of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Bystanders said that Christian Dwight Davis was asked to leave the bar because he was drunk. After leaving the bar, the man got into his van and allegedly drove it on the sidewalk and tried to crash people standing there.
Davis’ van hit three people; one of the injured people was transported to Palomar Medical Center with severe injuries. The other two people were taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with serious injuries as well.
Two people had minor injuries when they detained Davis before deputies arrived. They were transported to Scripps Encinitas Hospital.
Davis was transported to the Vista Detention Facility. He now faces four felony charges, three of attempted first-degree murder and one of attempted escape with force. Davis is scheduled to be arranged on Tuesday.
